Why I like your back

Your Back

Here's a poem I wrote to accompany this image:

'Your Back'

I look for mine but cannot see
It, yet it is right behind me.
It loiters close, just out of sight
And no twist, turn or limpid light
Betrays it to my naked eye.

I reach for it but cannot touch
All of it. My strained fingers clutch
And claw thin air. It whirls away
Like a coquette. I'm kept at bay;
Jilted, in defeat left to sigh.

Is it therefore any wonder
That like hirelings to the plunder
Upon yours, I regale my eyes
Whilst my hands ache to exorcise
Its myth and its truth verify?
