I travelled to the city of Allhabad in North India in 2013 to get a first hand experience of the famous, age old, festival of Kumb Mela .

Kumbh Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred or holy river of Ganges (aka Ganga).At any given place, the Kumbh Mela is held once in 12 years.Yes. I did take a dip too ( infact 3 dips) in cold morning. It was exhilarating!

The largest gathering ever in human history happened that year in 2013. the Kumbh Mela festival which is celebrated only once every 12 years. A staggering 100 million people descended on the city of Allahabad by the shores of the Ganges River through the 55 day festival season, with 10 million having bathed in the Ganges just on the opening day alone.
