A Mountain Contest Entry
Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Its name in the Tamil language means "The Gift of the Forest". Kodaikanal is referred to as the "Princess of Hill stations" and has a long history as a retreat and popular tourist destination.
Kodaikanal was established in 1845 as a refuge from the high temperatures and tropical diseases of the plains by the British and American Missionaries. Much of the local economy is based on the hospitality industry serving tourism. As of 2011, the city had a population of 36,501.
Pillar Rocks Mountain, located at a distance of 8 km from the lake tower, is one of the famous tourist attractions. At this attraction, tourists can see three granite boulders that are standing vertically shoulder to shoulder. Measuring a height of around 400 ft from the ground, these pillars are known for offering bird's eye view of the surrounding beautiful vistas. And also a rock climbers' delight.
I visited Kodaikanal in 2012 and spent a delightful 4 days in a holiday resort. I took this shot during this visit on a sunny afternoon. Camera: Canon SX130IS, handheld.Imageslightly adjusted for lighta and crooped and resized to FAR requirements
Enjoy!.
