Traditional Art
Mixed Media: Major | I wanted to create a portrait of the Madonna in the style of icon writers. I sketched in the figure and the did an under painting using Inktense ink blocks. I then used pastels to create the figure and the shading. Once done with the figure, I use oil gold leaf to give the background the glowing halo look and to add the details to the border of her headdress. This was an experimental piece and the first of its kind that I have tried. I wanted a sorrowful look as I think the state of the world causes her much sorrow. I think I might try an angel in this style next as I think this is my very best piece to date. Eager to hear what my FAR colleagues have to say.
