Giant Swallowtail

This is not an attempt of being photo-realistic. Butterflies are small creatures even when the have the word giant in their name. We cannot see the beautiful pattern clearly, except we look very closely. To do that is usually impossible. They detect us long before we are close enough. Wind and changing shadows confuse our eyes further. My painting is a mix of what I observed in butterfly exhibitions and in my reference books and what I observed in my garden.
