Such a perfect title for such a perfect photograph taken by such a talented photographer.
Initially I thought to myself you must have waited patiently for hours getting this KODAC MOMENT, but then when I read your artist's notes, you indicated they love to do this....
turn their heads around into their back wings; therefore, I felt confident you did not have to wait hours, you just had to wait minutes making sure you captured the "right" him in just the right fashion and catching that look only a Count could give. This feathered creature I would hold in utmost respect. I love this shot . I would love to see this bird in real life , but thanks to you I get to see it through your lens. The tight cropping was an excellent choice. This photograph is a winner and I am so excited for you that you won. Congratulations . This photo, from the highlights and shadows and saturation to the hues and contrast and lighting....not to mention the focus and clarity and over all composition are top notch. An excellent photo. An excellent entry for this contest. You have a good eye and are a talented photographer .

Bravo...
Clap clap.

Time to take a bow.

Thanks for sharing. I would be proud to blow it up and frame it and place it in my home on a wall where it can be the topic of many a conversations.

A wonderful picture. And he does, indeed, look like the illustrious vampire, Count Dracula. I love the hypnotic look of his eyes and the way it looks like he's hiding within his cape.

I think this is the funniest bird photo I have ever seen. You are the master at seeing positions and expressions that others do not see, Eileen. Thank you for explaining how he got in this position. I think the clincher is the look in his eyes. His sleepy look fits that dracula profile... Your title is perfection. As usual...you make your viewer think outside of the box!

The coloring in this is unusual as well. That brownish gray is soft and certainly has been successfully captured in terms of saturation. All detail is showing. And your background is picking up that color as well as that lovely soft green. And of course..those Dark Shadows are a must. One can almost imagine that is the corner of his coffin.... :0

This is a fantastic pose and especially with the eyes open. I am a sucker for textures (and birds) so I am enamored with the depth of texture and light you captured in the feathers. Simply beautiful work.

a great catch Eileen,
as I love the capture you have as a child hiding after doing something bad.
as the clarity is great as I like the yellow head but the feathers are more of a focal point for me as you see them in great detail.
thank you for sharing.
always,
ron

LOL...you could NOT have come up w/ a better title than this for this piece Eileen. I LOVE it!! Good for you for being so creative.

Your focus here is spot on crisp....wow but he is so wonderfully detailed. Those feathers are amazing and I love the bit of red tail peaking up over the back. Colors are true and natural. Exposure just perfect and I like the tight crop a lot.

Boy did you snap this at EXACTLY the right moment. Obviously a well considered and just perfectly executed shot. Looks like you got everything right from title on through camera settings.

Have one six left and when I just saw that someone gave you a THREE for this shot! Well, lol.....although I imagine you didn't....laugh that is. So here's my last six of the week. Just for you and this guy. Well deserved and hope it takes the sting out of that three...just a little anyway.

wow, thanks so much for this Deb! I really love this one too. As far as the three, they have a right to call it as it is. They gave some good construction criticism and for that I am grateful. But this put me on cloud nine and I truly appreciate it!!
reply by PeglegDeb on 21-Jan-2017
Yes...but that constructive criticism was not really worth two WHOLE points. I got a ONE one time....lol...w/o constructive criticism. Anyway Eileen- well worth my six so you're very welcome.

Eileen,
A wonderful picture of the Pelican eyes open as it prepares for a snooze looking straight into your camera. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

He sure does look like the Count! How funny of a thing for this little bird to do! Fantastic clarity and closeness in this helps portray the feel of its soft feathers. The blurred background is done well to not detract the viewer's eye. Very well done!
