Wow! That is a crazy hippo. What is it doing? It's an eye catching photograph because you want to take a closer look at it. It almost looks as if it is dancing in the water. Nice lighting and composition.

This is a very cool photo! This is the first time I've seen a photo of a hippo jumping like this. From the way his mouth is so wide open and the water is coming out of it I can imagine that the noise you mentioned must have been very loud.

Wow! What a shot. Perfect timing and a blast of energy. Framing is good and the colours and lighting are good. Only thing that I would say is that the image looks a little soft? Well done though, and good luck with the competition :-)

That's always the pain with photographing fast moving things. Next time try to up the ISO a bit and maybe open the aperture a couple of stops, to give you a faster shutter speed to help freeze that motion. Just a thought.

good though: I pushed the iso to 3200 and used the maximum aperure of my 400 mm zoom at 5.6;
because of the poor blight conditions, the shutter speed was only 1/250

Wow! That must of been bad lighting at the time. is it a 400 that you have or the 100-400?

yes, the 100-400 fujinon: on apsc it means 600.....
therefore, a 1/250 was too low

Maybe next time the light will be better and allow for a faster shutter.

Spectacular but blurred, your shutter speed wasn't fast enough, and I think you know this already....but if this is in a member sponsored contest it doesn't matter, I've seen blurred images get first place.
The photograph is great had it been sharp.

yes, the upper part is blurred, he moved too fast; the lower part is sharper;
