Absolutely gorgeous red bodied butterfly! This is another one that I have not seen.well presented with good focus and clear detail throughout. This would be a difficult capture with the dark subject and the white flower he has landed on, very interesting and well done!

This is one of the prettiest butterflies I have ever seen.
I love its coloring, the red almost seems to glow.
You capture is centered nicely.
It is very crisp, clear and has vibrant colors.
Wonderful shot, thanks for sharing.

    You are so welcome. I went and did some
    searching on the internet, because I may want to draw it.

The butterfly is beautiful and the positioning of the insect in the photo is perfect. You can see the entire body including the sweeping back wing. The dark background accentuates the colors of the butterfly, and highlights the green and white. Thank you for telling us all about this butterfly.

A very interesting subject. It is well captured with very good placement within the frame.

Camera technique is well focused overall.

The image I see is well exposed and clear with a good DOF.

The colors are bright and vivid not over saturated.

Fine details of the butter fly are visible ie the antenna, the proboscis is visible.

The compound eye can be seen but softly.

Overall a colorful high contrast well composed take ... B-)) Bob

This is a beautiful butterfly that I haven't seen before. I love the red color it has and the black strong colors in its wings.
They look fabulous even against the dark background and you can see of the detail in it so clearly. Thanks for sharing this most unique and lovely specimen.

Great close up look at this butterfly! Excellent sharpness and detail. The lighting is great to show detail on the wings and the beautiful red color.

A beautiful shot that really encapsulates multiple aspects of the wonders and variety of nature in one piece - I can tell this was a tricky one for you Fred as the focus is a little soft, the flower heads are blown out - but you captured this amazing and brightly coloured pink and black butterfly with still great clarity, timing, and short DOF and from a great angle and also surrounded by the blurred greenery and dark background which both contrast and add depth to the piece, accentuating the butterfly as it carefully and methodically takes the nectar from the plant. Pictures like this occasionally make me see the pure mechanical processes that drive these creatures - and at the core of it even ourselves to some degree, although we don't like to admit it! Great colours and cropped neatly with the interesting B/G, great capture well done :)

    thanks a lot Ed;
    for the focus, once again, an uploading problem because the original is sharp;
    the white flowers are blown out because I had to keep it on the bright side in order to see the texture of the wings

    I rest my case - It was a sacrifice you had to make in order to present this shot to us! Not a bad thing :)

A beautiful butterfly whose dark wings look great against the dark background. Very fine detail in the butterfly but I might burn in those porterweed flowers a bit.

Another attractive subject! The colors of this butterfly are gorgeous. The interesting pattern and darker tones stand out nicely. I think the powdery texture of the wings looks good too.
