Ufoureah: I am so unbelievably inspired by all the beauty around us and hope to not inundate you with my flower photography. I am still learning and believe it or not every flower has its difficulty for me. so bare with me ... Sorry for those who are sick of the "boring " flowers. T'Is the season... soon you will get photos of all my hiking and backpacking adventures. Danielle

ducilla: It is indeed the season to commune with nature! With a camera in tow of course!...

Delia1111: I never tire of your photos. I have learned so much from your reviews of my work and from watching your lovely photos, whatever you're shooting ;) I have missed you recently, hope I'm not one of the folks in the dog house :), but no, I could'nt be, because I don't go for the points either, just the learning, and it is so good on this site! Good to see your healthy and happy !

francz_s: Just read your bio and found it interesting and very pertinent to our son who recently became certified as a respitory therapist. He is sitting for his exam to be registered in Utah and looking for a job. Any hints for him?
    June 1 at 6:54PM
Ufoureah: always do the right thing, the more experience you can get in every age group of the field the better for him and get a job where they have autonomy and protocols. I am getting out of the field after 25 years I am starting my own business now, but he can make a great living. good luck and congratulations

Ufoureah: This week I am 2 months on FAR and I can say that because of all of your criticisms and reviews I feel that my eye and the way I take my photographs has improved significantly and I thank each and every one of you. I hope to start learning how to use Photoshop and learn the proper ways to edit and enhance photographs on a minimal level. My goal is to stay as natural as I possibly can and keep learning as much as I can. This has been my goal since day 1. What I have also learned is that if you have a lot of member dollars on your photographs you have many people who come by to review you. If you do not, nothing happens. And this is what I see has been the trend here. There is only 1 way to make that stop. I am outspoken and I am sorry if I offend anyone. but today I have decided to stop reviewing anyone who consistently does not review my work. I have picked 50 people whose pictures I enjoy and I will review your pictures first, even if you have 2 cents on them, because that is why I am here. to learn, to teach to enjoy. It would be nice if you did the same for me. Today I will add the ones I have not added yet and that is who I am reviewing from now on. I will add more as I come across great photography and artwork. If you only come by because I have member dollars on I know you are not here for the right reason. I am not here to be the best, because I know I am not. I am honestly here to learn Danielle
March 19 at 11:55AM
Echo7: Glad your enjoying it. Yeh theres certain people who only review for member dollars. However i tend not to boost my photos but still recieve alot of reviews. I thank all the people who do that...there the real guys.

When it comes to learning photoshop....please ask anything you need to know. I'm very familiar with it & will help you wherever i can =D
    March 19 at 12:48PM
Ufoureah: Thank you my dear. your work is exceptional and I appreciate your offer.
    March 19 at 1:38PM
Badger: Out spoken is good, very good but are you not in danger of creating a mutual appreciation club for yourself with your proposal? And unless I misunderstand your last sentence, none of us was born the best at anything (except me), if we do not strive to be the best we possibly can at WHATEVER we do in life we are in grave danger of drowning in a sea of mediocrity. <--! End deep Badger mode and return to flippancy //-->
    March 19 at 3:41PM
Ufoureah: I will never be mediocre, at anything I do. I strive to be one of the best, always if I put out to do something.
    March 19 at 3:59PM
foureyes: First, I see nothing wrong with the policy of reciprocity you are proposing. (I assume I am on your list of 50; I have reviewed 11 of your pics in my last 20 pages of reviews written.)

Second, in an ideal world, we would have a few "free" posts when we first joined, and after that we would have to earning posting slots by reviewing -- perhaps one post slot for every 3-5 reviews.
And in addition, posts would be displayed in newest posts first order, with posts getting recognized status becoming permanent on the site and searchable separately.

The problem, of course, is that FAR is a business, and part of its income is from member dollars purchased with cash. I am not sure how much of its revenue comes from the annual fee, and how much from people paying for promotion, but I assume that the latter is significant. Presumably, if FAR were to adopt the ideal I mentioned earlier, it would raise the subscription fee, which would mean that those who post rarely would be subsidizing those who post frequently.

An alternative would be to have a set member dollar fee to keep post a new photo (perhaps limited to photos posted as being for sale), but no promotion fee to control placement.

that said, the whole promotion system is easily the aspect of FAR that I like least.
    March 19 at 7:17PM
Ufoureah: you make some great points are you a Virgo? thank you my dear... I have asked to be your fan.. so there. thank you for reviewing my work
    March 19 at 8:00PM
bpzzr: Over the few years I have been a member, the reviewing has always caused comments. The ideas to improve are many. I am a member on a few other reviewing and posting sites and still come back. Not because this site is better, in many ways it is not. But it is a Great start up site. Once you get so far though, there are other sites which challenge you more, unfortunatelly they do not seem to get as many commennts on the pictures. I personaly view a lot of the pictures, and unless I can help, or praise I do not review. SOme pictures, i am afraid, just leave me cold and rather than review to get the monney I just leave them. I also do not review when in the past I have taken time to examine, comment, suggest and teach. then all I get back is "thanks".
Yes I have replied Thank you for the review, but only when There is no ctiique or hint. I think 80% of the reviews I get are on the line of "nice picture, good DOF,good Focus", yes it is a nice comment, but does it help? I suppose it encourages, a little.
Realise what this site is, and look at others as well. I would suggest a few but you arn't supposed to on this site. So If you are intrested message me and I will send a few site links to look at.
    March 20 at 10:18AM
Ufoureah: I would love it if you did my dear. Sometimes I do not know what to say. My photography lingo is now expanding and I do not really know if my suggestions will be taken or I will be muted because I suggested a bit of a crop to someone. Its a catch 22. yes do please send me the links I would appreciate that alot. Danielle
    March 20 at 10:41AM
skarn1: You do make some good points here. I also sometimes wonder who and how some of the contests are judged as well.
To Bpzzr, I welcome all comments on my photos even it it is just a "great dof, nice color" so on and so forth. Not everyone has a huge photo vocab and don't really know exactly how to make a photo better but like to put their two cents in and give a complement. I don't think all reviews need to be heavy on suggestions and/or critizisms. That being said suggestions are always welcome because that helps the photographer learn to be a better photog!

    March 20 at 2:32PM
Ufoureah: Like I said, not member dollars on your work, hardly any reviews. I think I made my point what now?
    March 20 at 7:43PM
ducilla: Hi Danielle... I have been away for a week so am a bit late to this discussion...I could be one of those that does not review a lot.I am not picky but my time is limited and a good review takes more than a minute or two to produce.it requires that much time just to try and see what the artist is trying to say, then to express that conversation in words can take a lot longer. It is very time consuming and for that reason I only post a few photos.(maybe two or three a month on average?.).. Your solution sounds fine if it works for you. everyone has their own set of accepted guidelines. I mainly review off my "friends" list first and then I look for interesting images after that. It keeps my reviewing list down and seems to fill my available time completely.

FAR is a great place if you just let it work.It has many problem areas and after being here more than 3 years I keep coming back for the fine interaction with other artists ,like you!. I tend to ignore the problem areas and concentrate on what it is that I like about FAR.. It IS a very good starter site and for that reason we do loose some talented people to higher quality sites. I know this is true. But I have seen some of those people come back saying that the interaction here can not be beat .As far as change,it is a slow process but in general the modle of FAR works pretty well because of the artists.. We can keep up with new work and have fun doing it... dennis
    March 20 at 8:32PM
Ufoureah: Thank you Dennis for your positive work. I just see alot of problems and I am problem solver. so I will take your advice and do just that. I am already looking at alternative sites for more high quality work. thank you for that Dennis
    March 20 at 8:45PM
pzoette: Well I'll join in here. I was happily reviewing your work because I admired it so, and have been your fan since the first day I saw it. Now, I do review lots of work, but yesterday I also gifted some people. It was like giving out flowers.

But I don't make the cut here. And that is fine, but it does raise the red flag. Given what you've written it must say something about my work...I have an alternative site that I'm placing my work and it's been well received there, and I'd gladly share it as well.

But you have left me scratching my head. I'm definitely not as good as your list of 50, but I've been trying to do my best to review and that's how I get a couple of days promotion.

I never reviewed your work for the money bumps...but because you were on my list of favorites. You still are.
    March 24 at 4:22AM
Ufoureah: huh? Pzoette, this has nothing to do with you at all. wow
    March 28 at 12:48PM
ManipulART: I am one that will make use of member dollars...(that I buy not that I earn from reviewing work) to get my work back out there to be seen and reviewed. The 3 or 4 that you reviewed of mine you would have never seen without the boost of member dollars because they got their 2 reviews and got shelved...and I don't have the following that many of the artists on this site do, so only a handful of people that graciously follow my work get notifications that I have anything new posted...I am a novice at best here and look for feedback from more experienced artists...expesally those that are mixed media so I feel that on this site(sadly)I have to add incentives for my work to be reviewed.
    April 18 at 3:18PM
Lndslmn: Been reading your profile posts. Interesting things you say and do. I guess tats why I'm not on your 50's list.
    May 30 at 9:25PM

Ufoureah: Question of the day? How does one have 6 photographs promoted at once without reviewing one single picture? am I missing something?
March 18 at 11:19AM
Ufoureah: and should I not be asking that question?
    March 18 at 11:26AM
Badger: Having arms like an orangutan and very short pockets helps.
    March 18 at 11:41AM
Clyde B.: Evidently this person spends for real money for member money.
    March 18 at 12:27PM
NinaDd: Yes, you can buy member dollars with cold hard cash and promote as many pictures as you like. If you're rich enough to do this, then you don't have to treat reviewing like a part-time job or even review at all if you don't want to. :P
    March 18 at 3:27PM
Kelli Lauck: like i said before - pretty much sucks that some have paid for their ranking....lots of false pretenses....
    March 18 at 10:21PM
truckie: Just reading this as arelative newcomer and agree with all your comments
    March 19 at 4:38AM

Ufoureah: Do people on this site really want to be reviewed for their art or do they want to review themselves? What if you get attacked for a review you have honestly given? Just wondering...
March 14 at 11:13AM
Echo7: Your right. The problem here is that people are so used to getting 5 stars regardless of quality. With streams of comments....wow, beautiful, wonderful, amazing. When a lot of the time there not any of the above.

So Yeh everyone's used to 5. You give them below that & honest critique you may get backlashes. It's sad to see.

If everyone was more honest & the silly rankings didn't exsist , you would see a change & people would learn a hell of alot more
    March 14 at 1:19PM
Badger: I'm of the opinion that muting or complaining about an honest review by another member speaks volumes of you. As a child I was always taught that honesty is the best and only policy and that people will respect you for your honesty even if they don't like or agree what you have to say. That has not necessarily always been my experience on FAR.

I see more value in one honest review that tells me what is wrong or where I could improve than a hundred reviews praising a poor work.
    March 14 at 1:33PM
Ufoureah: I so agree with you.. I was told last night by someone I value so much and I think is probably one of the best photographers/editors I have seen in a long time. I just said I think a photo needed some cropping. seriously I was accused of wanting to keep this person away from the top of the list, when Indeed it was a bit of an eyesore to a nearly perfect picture. that was my opinion. muted and harrassed. I cannot even say why, how, because anything becaus I was muted. pretty weird. Is that how that works here? I want a true opinion and I could not give a darn about ranking, scores or anything else I am here for a few reasons and those are: to learn from my mistakes, to learn skills from others, to see other folks work and to get better at something artistic I really like because I am not artistic at all. very sad. Do I just bypass art I find horible to avoid backlash? I am sure those folks want to learn too.
    March 14 at 2:25PM
Keri Harrish: Like I want to pay a yearly subscription fee to stroke someone's ego. Gimme a break. I hope that there are at least a few people here willing to give others an honest view rather than some bull crap rating. After all it is a reviewing/learning site is it not? Correct me if I'm wrong on that. This is getting stupid already.
    March 14 at 2:56PM
AdyB1973: Personally, I prefer to receive honest reviews and consider any detrimental comments as constructive criticism. I dont want an ego boost, I want to improve my technique. This can only be achieved when you accept that not all your work is going to be brilliant or inspiring. This is why I joined the site and I am very grateful of all feedback, good or constructive. I would hope that this is the view of most members.
    March 14 at 3:13PM
Badger: This particular bone of contention has run for as long as I have been her and quite probably a lot longer.

The list of ways this sites management could resolve the issue is endless but it needs THEIR will to do so - not ours. Anonymous reviewing and removing any correlation between the number of postings a member makes and their ranking would be the easiest and cheapest way to achieve this but why would they take any action that could potentially lower the profitability of what I'm sure is a nice little earner for them.

Nuff said lest I get told again!
    March 14 at 3:41PM
Ufoureah: I am pretty new here and all I honestly want is to get better because my work is a work in progress. I know nothing about photography and have learned so much in the last 6 weeks of being here.
    March 14 at 3:43PM
shallemeier: I have actually taken a step backwards and have not reviewed for the last week or maybe even two. Reasons why you might ask? Because it takes a lot of time to give an honest review and comment. this sites takes much more of my time than the other sites I am a member of and with all od the fives that are given with either negative commenting or fantastic praising is not being honest with ourselves. I think we should all quit giving fives for a month, this would force us to have to use up our 5 1/2 or 6's to only those that deserve them or a lower score with true and honest critiquing. this way we can all better ourselves and isn't that the main reason we are spending so muck time on the site? I will say there are a good handful of artist on this site that have already helped me in bettering my art and I owe them so much for this. I truly appreciate what they have taught me and will keep them in my thoughts always!
    March 15 at 1:52AM
Reflections2: I would like to see a review system for a photography site that was blind on both sides; the reviewer's identity hidden, as well as the photographer's identity. This would prevent backlash from honest reviewing, and also clique reviewing (we're buddies, stroke my ego and I'll stroke yours). Also, reviews given out of spite or ???.

Not probable, because of desire to promote works. But if there was a 2-step feature to posting. 1st step - photographer's identity hidden. Photograph not added to the portfolio so that the photograph can not be identified as belonging to that member, until a specified blind reviewing time (2 or 3 days??) has lapsed. This suggestion is just off the top of my head, but something along these lines so that no critiquing was honest and fair all the way around - and so it was truly of benefit to the photographer's growth, and not because "they didn't play ball" the way someone else wanted them to.
    March 15 at 5:28PM
pzoette: So what if you get dinged for something you said you did deliberately because someone doesn't read that piece. For example I fo not produce realism. I am clear about that. So is it an honest or hasty review? Just my opinion that it's not.
    March 17 at 5:16PM

Ufoureah: My almost 87 year old dad has broken his pelvis in his gym parking lot. I apologize for not being able to review many of your works and/or to say thank you for reviewing mine. Ufoureah: To all my fans. I am very new at this. I just bought my Nikon D90 I am in the process of starting to learn basic photo editing and will hopefully be able to use them later. right now I am focusing on taking the pictures as best as possible so that I do not have to edit them too much afterwards.
February 15 at 6:46PM
Echo7: If you need any help with editing give me a shout. Happy to help there. The D90 is a great camera. I know it well. Sinbackkk has one...hes a god

icnpictures: I think photoshop is very complicated (but I am not very knowledgable in these softwares) I would like to be, but need a class or something, I dont know how to do it on my own without making a BIG mess of my photos! haha! :)

Mitcham: That's the best way to learn by your mistakes. I found the video tutorials on Adobe TV a great help.Classes are fine if you have a good memory, but with the video's you always have then to hand. Mitch

pzoette: Just looking at this now. I use 3 (after trying many) depending upon what I want to do. I like Serif Photo Plus...liked the X4 better than the X5 which seems to be a little buggy with some of the new functions. It is not that expensive. I used to like Ulead but it was bought by Corel and now that takes up so much memory. When PhotoPlus freezes up I go to the free Elements that came with my Wacom.
