Portrait of none, but many...

The Woman by the Window

This woman does not exist in reality, but she hunts my imagination for quite a time.
I was inspired by an illustration in an old battered copy of Isabel Allende's "The Stories of Eva Luna".
[Bantam Books New York, Toronto, London, Sydney, Auckland 1992.]
Unfortunately, the editor has not given credit given to the illustrator of this paperback edition, so that the artist which inspired my painting reminds unknown to me.
It is probably due to the light and the damage time left on the book, but time after time I look at this illustration the scene seems to have changed. The situation is always the same of course. The woman sits near a window, her eyes are closed. But did she fall asleep, exhausted, our does she have her eyes closed just thinking of ...what?
I have tried to recreate her originally for a contest long ago, then many characters, some living others I just read about seemed to slip into her personality ...
