This is a Polyphemus moth,a large silk moth,named after the giant cyclops,Polyphemus,from Greek mythology,who had a single large eye in the middle of his forehead. This was a hand held shot taken of the moth(yes,it's alive!) on a lichen covered section of wood.It was released that evening.
