FEBRUARY 2018 OPEN CHALLENGE Contest Entry
This was completed on the 24th of February. Happy Sunday to all! Here's a poem to accompany it:
A Daydream
When the harsh clash of steel upon steel
Becomes a faint and distant peal
And when the red mist of war fades
Away, the sweet bliss of green glades,
I seek. The rustle of the leaves
Borne of the sigh that silence heaves
Mutes the clamour within my ears;
Faint echoes now are the slain's tears;
Dim, too, their forms as, with a sigh,
I bid them - friend and foe- goodbye.
I gaze awhile at the blue sky-
The field on which clouds gently lie.
I gaze until my soul floats free
Unchained from its burden - me.
She does not leave me on my own-
Gently she lifts me and I'm flown
From what is real instead to skim
And trace the edges of the brim
Of the Unreal domain where she
Holds undisputed sovereignty.
The Unreal where guilt, hate and doubt
Are banished to the world without;
Where truth, peace and hope overwhelm
My mistrust of the phantom realm.
'Imagined, yes', whispers my soul.
'But without this, you are not whole!'
She adds, 'Here, my will is supreme
And I will you to pine and dream!'
Gladly, I yield and with a smile
In the Unreal, I dwell awhile.
