'Yaksha' are mythical beings of Hindu mythology. Their female counterparts, known as the 'Yakshi' are known for their beauty and charm.

Although Yakshis are usually benevolent, there are also Yakshis with malevolent characteristics in Indian folklore. They are the guardians of the treasure hidden in the earth. Hence I have tried to show both of them in this single drawing.

Historically, a tribe of yakshas, known for their wealth and valor, seemed to have ruled some region in the foothills of the Himalayas. While the male Yakshas are depicted in Hindu art and architecture as portly and deformed, the Yakshis are depicted as women of great charm and beauty.

I have tried to portray a Yakshis in a modernized style. Hope you will like it.
This is an ink drawing using pens of size 0.1 to 0.8mm and drawn on 11:x17 inches 250gsm thick paper.

Enjoy!
