This is a Cottonwood tree in January. I liked how the lacy branches looked against the sky as the sun was setting.
Cottonwood trees are huge. They grow 6 feet every year and reach between 50 to over 100 feet tall. They can live for 100 years. The female cottonwood trees bear seeds with cotton like extensions. During the Spring, this cotton floats through the air and covers everything usually from April until June in Minnesota.
