This Blue Jay was taking off after grabbing a peanut. I liked the way his tail feathers fanned out as he was taking off.
An interesting thing about Blue Jays is that they mimic the calls of hawks, especially the Red-shouldered Hawk. It is believed that these calls may be used to deceive other bird species into believing that a hawk is nearby and to provide information to other jays when a hawk is around.
