There are hundreds of types of pigeons. This one is a common Feral Pigeon that is carrying branches for use in building his nest.

Pigeons are pretty smart birds. In 2017 research at the University of Iowa determined that pigeons understand the concept of space and time. https://now.uiowa.edu/2017/12/pigeons-can-discriminate-both-space-and-time

They can find their way back to their nest from 1300 miles away. Their homing talents saved thousands of lives in both World Wars. One bird named Cher Ami completed a mission in WWI that led to the rescue of the 'Lost Battalion' of 194 stranded U.S. soldiers on October 4, 1918. He was shot by enemy fire through the chest and leg but still managed to deliver the message capsule that brought about the relief of the 194 battalion survivors.
