Herodias and Salome

The Head Of The Baptist

Hi all. This is a sketch of a biblical scene in which the head of John the Baptist is viewed by Herodias, the wife of Herod, and Salome her daughter. John, The Baptist was imprisoned by Herod and was a constant thorn in his conscience as well as those of his wife and her daughter by another father. Herodias, knowing that Herod lusted after Salome persuaded her to dance erotically for Herod in return for the head of John The Baptist. The image above is the grim aftermath of the fateful dance and the beheading. Happy viewing! :)
