we had a few fireworks when the students came back from the pubs in the early hours of the morning, saying good bye to Eid again. I live in a mainly white area now, but before I lived in Asian areas, and I KNEW it was Eid, even if never asked to join in whilst in Sheffield, but always in London- from what was going on all around me. Now, I must add, once when teaching at a Convent in India--/I always wore long skirts/ half a dozen young lads ran up to me and to my delight, gave me an invitation to an Eid Concert -celebrations the next night. It was superb, really outstanding. I really enjoyed it.. but I have to add, on Tuesdays the RC Cathedral where I worshipped in Lahore, had a Tuesday Urdu Mass- with a packed Cathedral, which I attended- they had musicians who played the same style music. I think it belongs to the sub Continent, not to any particular religion.
