Kallima inachus also called the Orange Oakleaf or Dead Leaf Butterfly is a Nymphalid tropical Asian species seen from Indian to Japan. Its name is derived from its excellent camouflage - with its wings closed, it closely resembles a dry leaf with dark veins.
he Kallima Inachus has two generations per year. One in the wet season and one in the dry. In each season the butterfly's underside leafy pattern and size seem to change (in the wet season the Orange oakleaf has a smaller size and a darker coloration). Like most Lepidopterans, this butterfly starts as an egg, grows into a caterpillar, turns into a chrysalis, and after some weeks they change into a full grown butterfly.
