This is my proposed cover for my nonfiction memoir of the period of my life from age thirteen to sixteen on the island of Cerralvo in Mexico, which hopefully I may yet finish while I am still alive! Unfortunately, the landmass in the photo is Isla Espiritu Santo, an island to the north which we would pass on the way to Isla Cerralvo. Cerralvo has since been renamed, Isla Jacques Cousteau, but people familiar with the island still call it Cerralvo. Actually, one of the reasons the Mexican government renamed the island in my opinion, was to keep the Ruffo family who lived in the city of La Paz from claiming to own the island since La Paz' pearl fishing era. The government expelled my father from the island in 1969, but he himself didn't live on it in any event. He left me there as a kind of place marker (human geographic paperweight?) with horses burros and goats... a long story, and in view of the fact that my father was a deluded veteran of WW2 turned cult leader, the story is a far more complicated one than I can explain here, and perhaps even too strange to tell in a way that readers will be able to relate to it, but I am trying! (Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction to be sure...)
