How else could you take this and not get the best out of it!! You certainly caught something special so 5* presentationa dnc omposition...I like how it darkens in the centre and then lightens up again at the fore ground reflection, beautiful colour and I lobe the fiery-golden highlights detailing the clouds at cntre focus...beautiful, peaceful atmopheric shot..love it

How else could you take this and not get the best out of it!! Lovely, lovely capture! I love the sun at the centre of this shot (where else could it be I ask myself!) and the rays spreading out spectacularly from it's core. Fantastic and sorry I have not a 6 for you. Wonder if the scene momentarily looked something like that when the meteor hit the earth in the Yucatan peninsular 65million years ago? Fascinating ..and thanks for sharing this.

Thank you so much for your complimentary review. Maybe the sky was afire similar 65 million years ago but I think the ocean wasn't this calm back then.

Whatever the scientists say, this is a very attractive shot. Centering was certainly the right decision as the radiating sunrays provide a symmetry that should not be broken. However, I do think that cropping to just above the top of the rays to provide a panoramic effect gives more impact - never mind the rule of thirds! But still a 5* photograph.

Thank you so much Anton for your review and suggestion. Sorry I disagree, I did the crop and didn't like it. For me it was of less impact. It looks somehow faked, very decorative but not natural. I like the somehow strange lighted sky above. But I could wrong maybe because I saw it happen in nature and there is the full view. Beside this, the crop looks to much like an regular sunrise to me, not like a mirage. I'm may be wrong, but that's how I see it.

You are at a point in your photography that you know when to break the code... they are more like guidelines, anyways. (laughs and winks) ... nice job.

Thank you so much Xennia. Yes I took a couple other photos but there wasn't much time for experiment. It was there for only a couple minutes or less. Then it got dark again and I thought first the sun is behind some clouds before the real sunrise occurred and I realised that I just had seen and captured a mirage. The real sunrise wasn't nearly as spectacular as this Fatah Morgana.

Well, I'm no scientist either so your references were lost on me :) But I think I know a good photo when I see it (except for my own) and this is lovely. I agree, It had to be centered and teh whole composition works beautifully.

I'd never heard of this 'No Centering rule' until I joined this site and I'm partially with you in that centering is the only way to go with this image on the vertical anyway. Following these rules potentially removes your creative options do what's right for the image.
Good composition all round with big sky allowing the 'sun rays' to expand and fill the composition.
Whatever the science behind this is a lovely image to view.

I'd never heard of this 'No Centering rule' until I joined this site and I'm partially with you in that centering is the only way to go with this image on the vertical anyway. Following these rules potentially removes your creative options do what's right for the image.

Thank you so much Gary, I don't think that there is a 'not centering rule', it's more a like or dislike position. I think it's the rule of thirds what we talk on the site but that rule doesn't say you couldn't center at least as I read it. In my oppinion rules are guidelines we have to know, but they are flexible. It's art and not mathematics. Sorry for responding late.

Thanks for saying that, I'd never heard of centering/not centering rule 'til I joined this site but several people have mentioned it in reviews of my photos. I have heard of the 'rule' of thirds but totally agree it's not a rule.

Sorry for being not clear in my reply. I don't think that there is a rule called centering rule but the rule of thirds is real, This rule is old and were used in paintings long before photography was invented. It is a compositional rule used widely today in all visual art's including photography. With this rule the picture is divided into 9 equal parts by two vertical and two horizontal lines. The important subjects are placed along these lines or the crossing's. It is quite interesting to work with the rule. You could google "rule of thirds, photography". There are some interesting online articles.
