I'm jealous that a photographer can create something as fascinating and incredible as this in one day and for an artist, if it could be done at all, it would take days, weeks...perhaps longer. It is such a visual treat to see the motion, metalic-like colors, textures, dancing light, and swirls all coming together. I think it stirs the imagination to no end to try to determine what it really is. A twister? A water spout? A squaw braid? Great creation!

That is fantastic! It looks indeed like as waterspout I photographed once, but even more compact. The colors and the funnel seem somehow metallic; almost solid what is most interesting. Are these swirls around the funnel air bubbles? How did you created that swirl? Did you plump something in the water with the glass on a fast rotating base?

Hi Cleo! You are smart! Yes, I used a motorized rotating small disk and created a eddie with water, hence the bubbles. It took a while to get it look like a spinning funnel, but that I figured out through my camera. Thank you, I am glad you like it! Happy New Year!

You are the smart one! You came up with that idea. Very clever.
Happy New Year!

Thank you, 4 I AM...it took some time, but I took as small motor and a round disk, put it n a cylinder and made an eddie type of swirl. Took some time to make it look like a spinning funnel, but that I did through my camera. Glad you like it! Happy New Year!

You come up with all sorts of good ideas. I really like your out of the box thinking. I don't have the faintest idea how air can create a twister in water, but it is very effective. I think using natural light was good for this image because it has created really lovely colors and also some really nice shiny areas. Your image appears a bit grainy though, and I think perhaps your twister could have been slightly sharper, but you probably would loose some of the twist effect. I would also have done some work in the bottom left corner. Like darkening, cloning or burning. I think however the diagonal appearance of the twister within the frame works well. You have indeed created a lovely abstract with the use of water, wind and motion. Well done.

Thank you for your comments, I was about to go in and fix that corner. Was too tired last night, thank you for helping me not to procrastinate! Happy New Year!
-
Wish you a Happy New Year as well.

Thank you, and many thanks for your attention to detail, I am feeling lazy and might have procrastinated all day!

Once posted it is always difficult to go back and correct things. The corner is perfect now, so I think it was worth it.

This is an interesting composition. There is a lot of movement. The curves and textures of the tister make it an interesting viewing. Fine composition, soft colours and very good light makes very viewable.
Here is wishing you A Very Happy And Prosperous new Year 2012!

Even in the thumbnail you image stopped me and now that I can see it large on my monitor it just boggles my mind. I instantly wondered how in tarnations was this created? That blur of the twister is pure art...you have captured movement and sucked my eye right in which dances over your canvas with interest studying each pixel closely. The color bytes you have given only add to mystery and warmth, mystery to look deeper and warmth to stay comfortable...a great photographic juxtaposition, congratulations. Let's get to the technical aspect of this critique. The negative space is very balancing adding to symmetry and it's comforting to know that this funnel is in a beaker! The quality of light is right on, you knew what you were doing, at least in your experimentation you posted the winner. I like the way the direction of the light is coming and how textured it is in it's blur which smartly shows tremendous movement. The fact that you added those spin lines stands positively for you. In the background you have added bubbles, or were they already there, if they were there that's pure serendipity, if you added them it shows artistic prowess. Tonality is wonderful, rich deep tones with bright ones and everything in between, lovely. The visual patterns of this image, the shape of the twister, the diagonal lines which show movement all play together towards a great harmony and a great visual impact. Camera angle is thoughtful as well, straight on, brilliant! And look at the presentation, you did this, smartly in presenting it in a vertical format, you knew what you were doing, you wanted the viewer to be spellbound by this twister and you have succeeded in spellbinding me and you get FULL MARKS. Do we have to wait until next year's Boxing Day to get a boxing day special image? I hope not.

This is the best review I have ever read, and I am so ecstatic about it! Your understood my image and took time to really study it, which is gratifying to me. It was water rotating in a glass cylinder, (without knowing how it would turn out). Those are water bubbles, very good eye, and there were more, but I covered some up and subdued others, since in my mind, a twister is made of air, and the water bubbles made it look like an eddie! I love your comments and all the time you took to look at it in such detail. Thank you, you made me very happy! I wish you a very Happy New Year!
