cleo85,

I love the crispness in the leaves, flower, and Pipevine Swallowtail. I appreciate your information on this amazing specimen. Thank you for making this available to FanStory.

Very interesting artist notes. Excellent focus on the flower and the moth. I think it would have been better if the depth of field had thrown the background out of focus. The highlight above the moth is competing for attention.

Thank you very much for your review and your input. The lighter weed above did not seemed to me as bothersome but you are right
could be a bit distracting. But would it it not be better just to darken ther highlight? Changing the DOF would bring the background out of focus. That would make the photo to just another picture of a butterfly without the meaning of its natural non-protected habitat.

Darkening it would certainly be an option. My suggestion was to keep sharp focus on the flower and less focus on the background via a larger aperture. Another option would have been to change the point of view by moving to the left of the flower, assuming there would be less distraction behind what is now the right side of the flower. Note that I'm not suggesting this is a bad shot; only that it might have potential to be better.

Thank you very much. There is the same all around the flower. The beach is covered with them. It is a creeping vine. They are directly on the ground. That is a belly shot. I was lucky that the beach is slightly angled not totally flat. But of curse I could have done a different DOF, different aperture etc. but my point I try to get over is just that the background has the same importance to me as the Morning Glory and the Swallowtail. That means the interest lays not on the almost undisturbed but also unprotected environment not on the three different parts I am showing. If the photo dos not bring this message over my concept was wrong. I didn't mean to make a photo for the pure enjoyment or beauty of it but for the informative and journalistic value. Unfortunately it is a blind contest so I am not able to reveal the location in my comments.
