Your very passion for this photo has come across in the painting. Your artists notes, your title, tells it's story and make this scene powerful. Your artistic abilities are phenomenal and bring this Women by the window to life. So beautiful are your brush strokes, and shading of colors along with the women's facial features the way she is holding her head with her eyes closed just contemplating. It's that contemplating that start our imaginations to work overtime. Truly a beautiful creation and outstanding work. Worthy of a six star! Thanks for sharing!

I admire totally your capacity to create these wonderful paintings digitally - she is sitting wonderfully in your frame - I love the color range , the softness of her calm thoughtful moment - I also admire the lighting you have created in the background showing that she is sitting in a nice mood of light - the arc like color-flow creates this divine protection and peaceful ambiance
excellent detail work - perfection in shadow and light application- great job

Such good notes w/ this piece Cleo....I may even Google it after reading your touching comments.

Your shading work is just exquisite.....what a lovely pose and a beautiful face. The way the light falls on her is shown perfectly as from the way you described her sitting by the window. So...I have two questions. Is she holding something in her hand? A handkerchief perhaps...yes...I bet that's what it is after having another good look. I do like the ear and the earring as well. The hair ornament I found at first almost jarring....as if she had a bald spot or something but once again looking longer and more carefully I can see what it is.

Something so thoughtful about her posture. A really lovely rendering Cleo.

Thank you very much! Yes she is holding a handkerchief. I have to change the color. It is not defined enough jet. The jewellery was inspired by what the author of the book wears in her photos. Cleo :o)

You are most welcome Cleo and yes...changing the color of the handkerchief would make it clearer that she doesn't have six fingers or something lol

I had it in color of her shawl once, but found it distracted from her face, so I made it darker. I am still thinking about what shade to use. The woman still keeps hunting me. I wonder if I will ever finish her portrait.

good point Cleo as you definitely don't want to distract from her face. It sounds like she will not stop haunting you until you feel you are 100% done and happy w/ you piece. Good luck!

A well thought out creation with a visually soothing compositional style with a dynamic backdrop strokes.
Lighting effect is impressive.
Harmonious color combination.
Fine facial features & smooth textures.
Tall format with ample breathing space on top works well here.
I'd consider covering her ear a bit--just showing her pearl earring. Just a thought though.

Still a gorgeous rendition!
I know the degree of difficulty is 101x harder than taking a photo portrait!
The time, effort, materials & apprehension are some factors to consider too!

This is a lovely portrait Cleo, and I especially like the way you have used the light. I also like very much the limited color pallet and the fine textures of the background.

I also like very much the expressive face and the relaxed pose, but the hand is all wrong. It almost looks like one finger is hanging loose from the inside of the hand. I think it should have been placed closer to the other fingers.

I do however think the painting is nicely framed, and the woman is well placed on the canvas. It is a lovely and all together well done portrait, but in need of some adjustments of the hand.

Thank you very much for your throughout review. I know critique would come about the hand, but that is not a finger hanging down. There are actually no fingers, but one. She holds some kind of close, might be she used it to dry her tears. What really is wrong is the color and in the refinement of that close. Originally the close was of the same color as her shawl, than I made a version were it resembles the beige in the background and a few others in different color, but nothing was satisfying because I thought it distracts from the face, so I just made the beige color darker. I work on this painting off and on for several years now and thought it is time to post it for getting fresh ideas. Maybe I should just change back to my original first version, might be that I am all wrong and the color works. Of curse I could repaint that area and take the close out completely, but something in me just want let go of that cloth.

I can see now that she is holding a cloth, and of course this would be more obvious if it has another color. I actually think it would look good in the same red as the shawl, and I think you should let it stay. You are more than welcome for the review Cleo.

Hi cleo85

What a lovely piece of creation from thee inspiration you gathered. I concur with you about images that haunt you for a while until you commit them to screen or paper. I do have one at the moment and wont be able to release it unfotunately for a fortnight due to time constraints. Meanwhile I will continue to suffer the haunting :) Hope you are enjoying your freedom. This is a beautiful release and I wish I had a six left for you R

This woman hunted me for years and I feel it is not over jet. I will have to paint her again. I guess some of our characters just won't let go of us. :o)

This is a very lovely painting Cleo. As always I am astounded with your talent using Digital Painting as you medium. One would not know this wasn't done with a paint and brushes. Excellent composition and details. I believe she is semi asleep, in a dreamy, deep thinking state, pondering who knows what?

Thanks for your great notes, it caused me to go and google both the book and the author. I found it very interesting that many of her poses are done with her hand to her face, her cheek or chin as were many of the illustrations with her books.

Well done!

Thank you very much for your thoughtful review. I think some of the photos of Isabel Allende and her late daughter Paula had a great influence on the painting as well as some personal experiences I share with the author.
