I love John Wayne. This is a great artwork of him. You have captured his likeness and his persona. It's that little crooked smile that he was known for. I like that you put him on a horse. It shows what he was best known for. Great composition, colors and texture. Nice entry for the contest.

Lovely,resemblance to John Wayne with excellent shading and color and detail.
I love the fading background in this also...I think it adds a lot to this lovely paint.

Nice one James. Who can forget "the Duke". That low voice and swagger made his a Hollywood legend and the hero of many a young boy growing up. We All wanted to be like John Wayne. Great tribute to a great man. Best of the best in the contest ~ Steve

I think that the facial features could be a bit sharper and more defined. He had that distinct face and look about him. But that is just me James and you know my knowledge of art is zilch. Other than that I think it a good entry for the contest. I hope this helps ~ Steve

wow. this is fantastic James. What an excellent portrait of the ever famous cowboy himself. John Wayne. great choice of colours and really good use of shadowing and blending of tones in his cowboy apparel. The creases in his shirt, the worn effect on his pants, look so realistic. Love his bandanna in striking yellow to match his braces.. and the little décor on his hat.. Fabulous use of lighting on his face to enhance his features and give him a 3 dimensional appearance. The darker tonings on his face add to that weathered outdoor rugged look that of course any great cowboy has.. Love the position of his hands.. One on his trust weapon, the other comfortably holding the reigns ready for action. The hat nicely positioned there on his head give him that handsome touch.. One cut above the rest so to speak. Love the saddle colours and the horse's mane .. they allow us to imagine what we can't see.. the rest of the horse.. A well balanced effect to keep attention on the main subject. The nicely blended background in earthy tones is a perfect contrast and offers good value to the painting.
