I really like the close and personal approach and also the funny expression in the bird's face. It actually looks like it is smiling. The plain background is perfect, and the bird is standing out from it in an excellent way.
Your focus is spot on and sharp showing really clear and well defined details in every part of the bird of the bird, and the exposure is perfect.
I like the format you have cropped the photo into, and also the placement of the bird within the frame. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Such a fine portrait of the Kookaburra. Focus, clarity and exposure are spot on, showing the fine details and coloring of his feathers and the brightness of his eye. Nice job.
