Wow Mary, how big is that thing?!

The pinchers alone are as long as the head itself.

You are right.. I would not stick around either LOL

Very nice details and the colors are perfect....

Thanks Eileen probably just over 1/2 inch and fortunately they are pretty much loners away from nest 😃

I like this photo as you almost feel how hard aa go it is for an ant simply trying to get from here to there. I love the different textures of the leaves and the various shades of brown and gray.

Sorry,I'm not fond of bee stings,so l definitely wouldn't want to be bit by this guy! Has a very nasty set of pinchers that would make me avoid them, too,if at all possible. Very well focused, the surrounding colors are complimentary. Best wishes to you in the contest!

I like this one! This close-up looks like a macro shot. Perfect balance and composition. Natural earthy colors. I can see some fine details of the ant. Nicely done â??. Highly rated with a respect!

Hi Mary!
What an interesting creature!
And that's a great looking photograph of it too!
It makes me think of the ferocious Fire Ants that the older troops who'd been in 'Nam would tell us about!

Thanks Sean - they are similar to Fire Ants which we have in Queensland in tropics unfortunately Fire Ant have ended up in Australia they are not indigenous where as the Red Bull Ant is a native.

This is an interesting close-up. Your photo is well focused and exposed and has good depth. I appreciate the sharpness of detail and textures and the realism of color and light. The reflections in the eyes and on the back of the ant are especial intriguing. The tall framing emphasizes the insect. The ant is well placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

A very good looking entry into the competition posted here! Your fine and central composition offers us an enjoyable view of your big ant out there and its location. Sounds like it is a bit of pest? Exposure and sharpness are good. Well done and good luck!

Thanks Nik - they are native to our bushland and are quite beneficial as they tunnel underground aerating the soil allowing water to get to roots of plants in area. The introduced species, fire ants, are pest.s

Oh my goodness! I definitely would not want to get bitten by this red ant! Look at those pinchers! You have photographed it so very well with good focus, this image is clear, exposure is correct, the colors and tones appear natural, well shown details , I can see his eyes! He is walking on the fall leaves, well placed within the frame. Well composed and presented! Very best wishes to you in this contest!

Thanks so much Pat fortunately they are not aggressive to humans unless you upset them by getting in their path.

A great shot. The detail in the ant is quite remarkable and the dead leaves make a great setting. I like the tight crop and the beautiful colors. Best of luck in the contest.
