I have several of these 'Bumpy Trees' at my place....this is, by far, my favorite....It is a Cedar Tree....albeit, a 'diseased' Cedar. It is a virus that causes these growths. I have read that in the past these growths were cut off the tree, carved out and turned into bowls. I imagine they make very interesting and unusual bowls. I like them much better like this. This 'Bumpy Tree' stands like a warty sentinel at the head of some of my flower beds.
