NIGELLA odd ball in my gardens.

I planted a flat of blue NIGELLA damascena ( aka- 'Love-in-the-Mist' ) in my gardens last season and surprisingly this little odd ball showed up. While I typically prefer perennials (this is an annual) I also prefer my flowers have deeper, richer colors so when this little guy blossomed among all the vivid blue ones I wasn't sure I even liked it. Fortunately, I decided I liked it enough to even photograph it. Unfortunately, it was some sort of mutant that I'll probably never see again.

NIGELLA is easily recognized by its unique mist of airy bracts and foliage. The foliage is ferny, the flowers are beautiful and the seed pods are intriguing. While best known for the vivid blue blossom variety, NIGELLA also blooms in pinks, rose and white.....and for a single season this pretty, speckled blue one.
