While taking an after breakfast nap one day and fast asleep I started dreaming. Colors and shapes started to appear in various areas of the blacker than black field of vision in my mind. The racing and swirling colors began to take shapes dancing with shapes. It was a rather pleasant experience watching this dream movie as I was slowing waking up. From every corner of my darker than dark visual field all the colors suddenly raced to the center of the black space I was watching. And suddenly with a boom in my mind and a pain in my left eye a painting smacked together. Then the golden fancy frame slammed in to capture and contain the vision. The vision stayed as focused attention for maybe a few seconds before it woke me up with my expression of "ouw" from the pain. My wife who was sitting next to my doing her Christmas craft, intensely ask me if I was OK. I told her what had just happen and then said it would be nonsense for my to try to do the vision as a painting. However, the painting stuck in my mind and I knew I had to do it. Started work on it immediately. It is a pallet knife painting that was done fast and furious in the beginning that slowed down with small brush scrubbling and defining lines here and there. The painting framed is almost exactly what woke me up. This is the first time I have experienced this type of event, but since then it has not been the last. Prussian blue was used for the sky. Primarily Cobalt blue was used for the water. Various colors of yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber and raw umber were used for the shore and different shades of titanium white highlighted shapes here and there. The waves in my dream reminded me of a calm night at Elephant Butte lake in New Mexico I had once seen a long time ago so I named the painting "Elephant Butte Lake Bronze Path to Shore.
