Elephant in Chiaroscuro

by Life is but a dream.

I have studied various scientific papers trying to comprehend the meaning of the raised

elephant trunk. Nothing satisfied my curiosity. This elephant has his trunk up to me as a

thank you. The trunk was raised very high in an excited state followed by a loud and

delighted squeak. The reason was that this elephant is a patient in the FAE (Friends of Asian

Elephant) Hospital in Lampang, Thailand ( the only hospital in the world for suffering

elephants). He is suffering from a severe inflammation of his right front foot and was pacing

back and forth in his pen in agitated discomfort. I stood by him and began to sing. I sang

and sang ?Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink

your sweet wine.A million tomorrows shall all pass away, 'ere I forget all the joy that is mine,

today.? And on and on and on. The elephant stopped pacing and turned to face me, watched

my zany antics, listened to my song intently in stillness with his sore foot resting on an iron

bar. After a good 5 minutes of my performance, he raised his trunk high into the heavens and

squeaked ever so loudly, and again and again. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

This photograph was born all because of the kindness shown to me by one FAR member.

Steve or iPhone, thank you, and this suffering gentle giant, thanks you as well?..but this is

another story, for another time.
