Mid April marks the beginning of the arrival of wildlife babies. The American bison calves are often referred to as RED DOGS when they're first born. By late summer their fur is more of a golden brown.

This calf had been born just long enough to dry off before this photo was taken. The mother still hadn't expelled the afterbirth

That is why the coyote is present. While it looks like the coyote may have designs on bison veal for dinner, instead it is after the afterbirth. It was no match for a very attentive bison mother.
