We are not seeing that to be the case. AI isn't as popular as we thought it would be - at least up to this point. If interested in AI enter the AI contests. Not a lot of entries!

Thanks,
Tom

RE: Digital/al
Brian , I don't think the decline in photo entries is due at all to AI but just to the decline in hobby photographers. Hopefully that has leveled off. If anyone suffers from AI it is the traditional artists. Actually, both the AI entry as well as the traditional art entry. I believe neither AI or Art are probably voted on fairly because of personal feelings on the controversy more than work quality. That is why the two should be kept totally separate, for both to be treated fairly. It is like photos and paintings, different forms of talent used. That being said on member contests the person initiating the contest should clearly put No traditional art or No AI in the rules. And maybe on creating contests under the "contest type" choices the one could be changed to Digital/AI

I totally agree! there needs to be individual categories AI by itself and Tradional Art by itself. They are not at all the same.
I think too Photography on this site is becoming less popular. Chris

RE: Digital/al
I was just going to post something similar but mainly about straight AI. As some of you know I am not against it but I went to school, I have a degree in Graphic Design, I've spent years honing my craft and it's a little disheartening when people post straight AI, without any design behind it or listing how it was created and get credit for the creation. Digital art and AI are two separate forms of art, just like Fine Art Photography and Traditional art are two separate categories. They should be listed in different categories. However, the problem is, a person can state it's not straight AI and there is no way to prove it. Of course on the flip side a person can list a Digital art and call it digital art when it's from a photograph. There has to be a better way.

I do agree with you, I think AI is becoming more and more prevalent. I haven't seen to many new people coming to this site anymore and that's sad. If I see a first post, I try to engage, to encourage because while some of the new work isn't the best, we have all started somewhere. I don't want the new comers coming to the site and getting discouraged because they are competing against AI work.

I love this site, I love the artwork and the friends I have made on this site. I really appreciate all of you who have commented on my work. Your support is greatly appreciated.

RE: Digital/al
My main point was photography and art on here is in decline and more people are deciding digital and maybe al is the new way[i don,t understand either] but can see why people love it.
I think art and photography is important and when i go out and take photos in whatever circumstances i interact with different people and enjoy that as much as taking photos,as far as i can see digital/al won,t give you that interaction with people and i think thats the main point i was trying to make, and tes i also love the interaction on here which is something you don,t get on other sites.
But i do also feel to many photographers have left on here i think thats a shame and can see it getting not getting better.

RE: Digital/al
We have not seen any decline in photography this year outside of the normal Christmas/New Years slowdown. That's temporary.

There is a perception that AI is an issue. I'm not clear where this is coming from. We don't normally discuss the number of entries to contests. But to settle minds here are the numbers. When the deadlines for our AI contests were reached we had TWO entries for the AI Art contest. There were also only two entries to the AI Art And Me contest (where you can edit an AI image). Both deadlines were extended. We had no choice.

Ideally we'd love to see AI be so popular that we would need a new type (Traditional Art, Photography, Mixed Photography, Digital Art and a new AI). And we are ready to do that. Maybe at some point that will be the case. But right now AI isn't attracting artists. At least not FanArtReview artists. So it is part of Digital Art which is appropriate.

Keep in mind that the contest judges can see when there is the use of AI and take that into account. As can reviewers. So I wouldn't be concerned about competing against AI inspired art.

Thanks,
Tom

RE: Digital/al

I appreciate Tom's reply here but I for one won't enter art if AI is allowed.
