I love the softness of the entire piece and the subtle shading for the background. Her left arm looks a little uncomfortable, and because she is so fair skinned, I think the furniture she is lying on should have darker values to make her pop out. I would probably bump up the darkness in the wall also. It is a nice, comfortable piece. Excellent craftsmanship.

I really like the piece!! It is going to inspire me to get back to the drawing board. I recently had both hands done for severe carpal tunnel. One in February and the other in April. It was so bad for a long time that I could not hold a pencil for more than a few minutes at a time. Thanks for the reminder about how wonderful valuing in pencil can be!

Really beautiful and it looks like something you would see in a art museum. Love the way you did it and I love how you made it like how they would do their art back then when the ladies wore dresses. It's really amazing and has a really great glow to it if that makes any sense.

I really like the dreamy quality of this. Your work always looks so soft and appealing. You've really mastered the soft skin technique. Do you use smooth or vellum paper? Someone else on this group compared my work to yours, so now that I see who she meant I'm rather flattered. I adore graphite. It's my favorite medium to work with, and I think you've mastered it quite well. This is beautiful.

Wow, Bethann, I am so pleased that you like working with graphite. It is my favorite, too. I will definitely look at your work and see our likenesses. God bless, and thank you.

I think the main likeness is that we both draw realism with graphite and mostly people. I don't think anyone would get our work mixed up! ;) Yours are more soft and dreamy while mine are maybe harder. You are very, very skilled though, so I took it as a compliment that someone thinks we are similar. I am happy to meet someone else who loves working with graphite and would love to be able to discuss it more sometime. I'm always looking for tips, tricks and ideas. Is your work posted anywhere else? I've only posted a fraction of mine here so far and I'm really still learning this site. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but giving it a try for a month.

Linda,

Your beautiful maiden in repose entry for Traditional Artwork of the Month is just gorgeous. I am not really qualified to comment on it really.

You have very nice detail, shadowing and it is visually pleasing.

Just gorgeous detailing, shading technique and proportioning found in this lovely portrait of your beautiful maiden. I love the serenity found behind her gaze as well as the texturing throughout that portrays mood and tone as well as atmosphere.
