As a photographer I am no expert in pencil drawings but I like this.
A beautiful drawn picture of the young lady with crisp detail. I like the way you have kept the face bright as if the light is coming from the side highlighting her features.

David this is a wonderful review. You seem to understand art and the dimension of light. I did want that light to emanate from the inside out. Thank you for your very insightful review.

It is not any fun to review your drawings, because I don't find anything to comment on. LOL They are just so perfect, and so very lovely. It is indeed a beautiful maiden you have drawn here in a very relaxed pose and with roses in her hair. And of course a face like an angel.

The slightly textures background is working really well, and your pencil work is just outstanding. Especially the face is done in a lovely way, but also each fold in the dress are drawn with excellent attention to detail. You have also brought light into this drawing in a lovely way.

The drawing has a very good composition with a good framing and it is a very good balance between positive and negative space. Indeed a very well done and lovely drawing.

This reminds me of John Singer Sargent's Nonchaloir (Repose), 1911:

except your subject is looking directly at the observer while Sargent's is looking away, two separate images of beauty in repose that generate different feelings. I like your depiction of the fabric, the realistic texture, the drape and fold of her dress. Also the pose of the right hand, the tension of muscles in her neck, the smooth and relaxed left arm -- all conspire to effect a moment of authentic mood in the physiognamy of a beauty.

This is an absolute perfect review. You have even incorporated Sargent, who is so magnificent. Wow. I am completely humbled. A hearty thank you, and God bless.

Once again Linda your detail is very impressive. She looks realistic yet very artistic. She looks lovely in the pose you drew her in. I'm a fan of yours.

Thank you so much Doris. You know, I have never drawn Marilyn. I might attempt it.

Linda - I only review your work to offer support - because I have no advise to offer in which would make any of your pieces any better. You talent is incredible. I so wish I had the patience and skill to draw with such detail. The realism you are able to reproduce is outstanding. I'll continue to admire your work through reviews. But others will have to offer criticism or advice because I have none to give.

BC, thank you so very much for your wonderful comments. I appreciate it more than I can say. The size I usually work in is 8x10. Sometimes I work with a bigger canvas. I should attempt to go larger.
reply by bcgrafiks on 23-Sep-2014
My reason for asking is they appear here, to be of a grand scale, a force of there own as it were. 8X10 is a great size, as too much larger and one of these works could turn into your Sistine Chapel, a life's work!... :)Thanks

This is a stunning work.Technically, I think, it is flawless: the figure is beautifully proportioned, the composition is carefully and intelligently thought out, and the light and shadow effects are exquisite.Good luck in the contest!

Totally lovely once again, Linda. I really like the 19th century look of her and the piece with the use of the fainting couch. Beautifully composed with the perfect angle and placement of her and the couch for spatial balance and visual appeal. Cropped in just the right way - just enough dress (no legs) and just enough couch (again no legs). Your signature rendering which speaks volumes of character shines through and as always begs a story. Great job.

Well, thank you. Not just a usual thank you, but a deep down, heart and soul thank you. I like my subjects to be in a rather candid glance. Not posed, per-se. I just want drama, and lots of it.
reply by shoregrass on 22-Sep-2014
You are welcome. You are the champion of drama in my opinion.
