This one does grab the attention. The red is almost on fire in contrast to its complementary color.

Intresting close up, love the feather do, creative/different/unique.

Good composition, nice overall sharpness.

Nice catch. Great focus and centering. I can't believe the details in this picture. Great job! What kind of camera do you use?

Thank you so very much! I use an Olympus E3 camera with a 70-300mm lens.

Gee he just sat right there and posed for you. They really are beautiful birds. The way you are able to get them so close up like this is amazing. I like the way you see the way the wind is ruffling some of his feathers. A beautiful and excellent picture. Looks like he is talking to you.

Anyone that can make me giggle with their work gets extra! I think I saw his brother at the SF Giants game the other night but his mohawk was dyed orange.

This is a terrific close up with incredible camera work. It all works for me. I just read that you won the "red contest" and it is easy to see why. Congratulations on a job very well done!

Thank you so very much! I live in the state of Kentucky U.S.A. The Cardinal is our state bird.

Ahhh, and I thought you were going to say Australia, lol. So are these like finches then?
reply by the author on 25-Oct-2012
They are seed eaters like fenches so I guess they are in the same family.

The beak looks finch like. You take care now and enjoy these wonderful birds. Roy :0)

Yes, this bird is staring you you right in the face--lovely shot and good point of view. Vibrant colors and very good notes. I know the cardinals or redbirds (I may not know the difference) in Alabama are many--like interstate traffic in my yard this year:)

I never see any. This one is really beautiful as you said. I like the fancy hairdo and the black marks on his face. Funny expression. Lovely photo! Congratulations. :) Levon7
