You are so good with digital painting. This talented picture reminds me of the collies of my youth. His stance and proportions are so alive. There is a certain pride in his stance.Very nice tribute to a faithful friend.

Lovely rendering of your beloved pet. Nice hues and good proportions. Just me wanting him 'anchored more to the grassy area, but may be the effect you wanted or the upload-I'm not sure how digital painting works because I'm a traditional artist (who often fingerpaints but on large canvases!) Thanks for sharing! I love my pets too!

Thank you very much for your kind review. No, it was not the upload. The effect is intended, because it is not real grass. It is [dog-]haven [see my comments].

Yes, I read your comments...Like the movie " All Dogs Go to Heaven" feel! I didn't let that component detract from the rating because that part is just a personal thing, not right or wrong! Lovely digital rendering! Jean

Lassie walking out of a dreamscape. Lovely color and depth to this piece. Spiritual impact to the viewer.

Thank you very much! When my dog was young, people said he looked like Lassie, now the same happen for the painting. I start to believe its true.

I don't think so. We are just different. :-)

I love the subject metter. You did a GREAT job with attention to detail on the collie. Not fond of the super imposed look over the back ground though and the lack of attention to the details in the grass. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for you kind and honest reviews. The points of your critics are intentional in order to make it different looking from reality; because this is not a landscape. It is [dog-]haven. This picture is a signification of the saying: All Dogs go to Haven; as I have written in my comments. [Unfortunately, I cannot use this title for copyright issues with the similar named movie]

Oh sorry, Cleo. All I have is a five, but he's definitely worth more. Beautifully done!! Do you have time before the contest to lighten up his front leg that is in the foreground and part of his chest a little, or was that his natural coloring in that area? That's the only thing I see that stands out a little, otherwise great job. Excellent conformation, facial features--perfect. When I posted a picture of the doggie we lost, I nearly cried everytime I answered a review. It's amazing how close we get to our pets. Sorry for your lose, Cleo. You definitely did him justice in this beautiful painting. :)shawn

Thank you very much for your throughout and helpful review. I look into the shading. There was a natural darker tone, but I put more shade in to it to signify that he is in a somewhat gray area, the dog haven of our imagination. That thought is seems a bit to much over had to be understand by others.
Do not worry about sixes, they do not mean nearly as much as your review.
reply by MoonWillow on 01-Nov-2012
LOL! I did think of that. It's like he's still in our memories, but everything about him is not always perfectly clear. Don't worry about the touchups--I do understand your idea, but figured I'd be the only one to think of something like that. Are you sure we're not related?? LOL. We seem to have the same ideas a lot of times. :)))

Exactly. Your sentence about the unclear memory is perfect.
I looked at the shadow. Its may to much of it, but there is not enough time to change for the contest. It would mine to erase the area and start over or add a new layer. There are at about hundreds of small bush strokes tho get the effects. two weeks of work perhaps. I am a slow worker. I better paint a different picture.
I am not at all sure about my relations. Do to WWII, I do not know about my ancestry. LOL :-)

I would leave it in the contest and just put it in your notes. Maybe you did explain it and I just missed it. If you still feel you would like to brighten it, just put some white in that area--front leg in the foreground, up his chest a little and a tad on his hind leg on the same side--blur a little, lower the opacity to your preference, layer mode "overlay." Don't worry about the brush strokes, they are already there. This is just to brighten it, if you still feel you want to do that. If this is a committee judged contest, I'm sure they will read your notes though. :)shawn

No, I did not explain it. I always think; to much explaining goes in the way of the creativity of ther viewer. Most viewers do not seem to read the notes anyway.
Well, that is the point. My program dos not work that way. I do not have photoshop or paint shop. You gave me a idea nevertheless. I could try some opacity painting in a new layer. Let see how that work out. But right now I have to write some more reviews, otherwise I won't be able to promote my Halloween entry. I hate to miss a contest I have signed up for. Its always the same: I am to slow. Never enough time.

Dear Cleo,
This is marvelous!!! You have put so much love into this painting, I think you have an excellent chance at placing in this contest, but regardless, it is a winner in my book!
Thanks for sharing such a gorgeous soul speaking work..your blending of colors is marvelous as well!

Thank you Jenny, you truly made my day. I appreciate your review and the high rating very much; but what is even more is your understanding of my picture. Cleo
