has an amazing look and feel. great composition and outdoors scene. the natural colours look amazing and so realistic, in appearance. it feels like you can just walk into the area and walk up to the rocks.

This is a lovely scene and great notes Cleo. I like how your cacti and the rock formations have attractive textures and application of light. The colors are also very realistic.

As I grew up in parts of Baja Sur this certainly has the feel of familiarity about it.The faces hidden in the rocks are great! I see 3. Are there more?

There are 4 faces. Two are in the rock formation at the left. One is beside the big cactus on the right; it looks like a statue with long hair. One is in the grass. :o)

This is a wonderfully made digital painting! of the Arizona landscape with its unique cactus!. Light and sharpness are very effective in creating the atmospherics. Good luck!

Another wonderful digital image Cleo. I like the look of the cacti with their smooth vertical brush strokes. The diminishing sizes starting with the big and bold on the right side and growing smaller as they go to the left. The background rocks add a nice touch of drama to this scene. Well done Cleo and thank you for reviving this one ~ Steve

I like the contrast you used in this painting to focus exclusively on the cacti. The description you put also helps flesh out this painting. I think it's awesome that you subtly put some faces into the rock as well; they add some soul to this painting, as if the desert had a life of its own. You merged the colors well, like in the background how you got the greens and browns to blend.

I was curious if anyone notice the faces. You did and you understand their message exactly. :o)

Cool,Cleo!
I haven't been in Arizona since I was in the Military,my friend, and that was a long time ago!

Hi, Cleo. This is magnificent. I used to live in the Sonoran desert very close to the Huachaca mountains. One sister was born there. I am planning a painting someday for with the mountains, sauguro and prickly cacti and a cottonwood tree. Those trees are hardy and beautiful and thrives in the desert. We were within 10 miles of the mountains. I can learn from you. Six stars from me. Thank you for sharing

Oh my goodness, this is such a beautiful landscape! It is so very different then the landscape here in Ak. I really love cactus plants and it is a treat to view them in this setting, out in their natural environment, in the Arizona desert, over the years I have grown different types of cactus indoors .
The plant in right frame is very well created with realistic shape and structure, natural color and tones, this one along with the one to its left give depth to this scene as well as calling attention to the cactus that is growing further back and in front of the tall rock formations, I am very impressed as I study the formations with the detail you have applied as well as the way you show the light and shadows by your application of the different tones. The blue sky is brought to life with the white puffy clouds that you have placed there. This is a very well created digital painting, it's a beautiful scene .well presented!
Best wishes to you in this contest!

A very different landscape from what I'm used to here in the UK but interesting none the less. I like the appearance of the faces that seem to be carved out of the rocks. Great composition - and I wish you well in the contest.

Thank you for another encouraging review.
I had not planned on the faces at first, but while I was trying to give color and texture to the rocks, the shadow of one face 'just appeared'. Than I did go for it. It seemed so adequate. I was there years ago. The desert seems to have recorded and kept the distant voices of long gone people. Indians and pioneers, gold rush and civil war... but its not of the hunting kind, it is as if touching history. I have painted only three [two in the stone, one in the grass]. Any others just appeared. People have counted up to seven by now.
