Cleo, this is great! The cactus are one of my favorites, but the faces in the rock behind them are really wonderful. Is it just my imagination, or are there 5 of them? I love the colors you've used, the composition of the painting, and the style. So unique and one of your best yet.

Thank you so much! This is really a great encouragement to me. I was not sure if anyone would note the faces. There are actually seven but two are animals. I almost called the picture spirits of Arizona, but thought this would be to obvious. Thinking about I may will rename it. This picture got much better reviews than I thought it would.

Great Depth. Excellent shadowing which gives a true rounded and consistency to the cacti. The mountain behind the central cactus substantiates the author's notes concerning the height of these plants. This artist's notes are always interesting to read.

Quite lovely, CLeo, looking much like an oil on canvas. THe digital seems to have a certain look with the blending which gives it a very dreamy feel in many pieces~! Not unpleasant, just something I have observed. What appears to be a very simple composition is actually more complex than one would think-good balance and colors and great contest entry! Jean

I used digital oil colors. There is a resemblance, but of curse the do not blend like traditional oils. I needed a wile to find the out about the right amount to mix colors. The shading was even more complicated to learn. There is something strange with the texture of digital canvas and digital colors [oil and water alike]. It appears as if it is the same as traditional art. That is an illusion. Very soon I found out I had to learn painting allover again. [Did you see something unusual at rocks in the background?]

Hi, Cleo, well I saw a face, of course! BUT I see faces and eyes in just about everything! I think it is similar to the look of oil, but has a special glow about it!

You do not see them in your mind. Its in the picture. There are actually tree in, two in the rocks abs one in the grass. :-)

I will enlarge this again and go every every inch! I think many of us hide things in the paintings and it is really cool to do that! Jean

Pretty cool lady..The light is so nice..It leaves part of the canyon, and cactus in shadow, which adds to the "feel' seems like there could be a lot of mystery down in the half light! Donkeyoatey

Two faces in the rocks and one ion the grass[ front]
The was.t there when I started, but than I added different spots of paint for texture when used the knife to spread the paint, I saw outlines of a face [probably your grandmother our my muse did that], so I did go for it and painted those faces. You are one of only a few who realize them.

I forgot to mention that I saw the rock face..but I did have to go back and find the one in the grass..must be going blind..I missed that..your muse is working overtime! Another thing I noticed after looking very closely, is that the center cactus could use a wee bit more definition..the one on my right kicks butt..maybe a few wee lines? Donkeyoatey

Thank you for butt kicking and saving me. You are right. I payed so much attention to the faces, that I forgot to look intensively at the cactus. I will do now! [[The grass face is an Indian, probably Navajo, but my muse didn't tell me]

Yes, I know. I try to ignore it! I do not know from were that comes from. What does an Ape in the dessert of Arizona? He must have escaped from another picture. There is also something with big eye holes and a beak left beside the two faces in the stone I try to ignore as well...Well, Halloween is not far away. The ghosts are getting busy. Cleo

This is really well painted. It has an photo realistic accurac, especially the texture od socks, trees and skies. I had lived in Arizona for three years when I was younger (job related) and this illustration brings total recall. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so very much. I am amazed that I receive a six for this painting. That really is an great encouragement. I tried to be true to nature, but nevertheless wanted to put a surreal touch into as well. Did you see the faces?
