Oh my goodness, my eyes teared up a bit as I read this story and then looked again at your photograph. What a well focused work of a life alone.

Thank you, fortunately they had many happy years!

I like how you have captured a lonely moment with the empty chair. I note that the chair is turned to the side as if remembering how things once were and not facing front.

Very effective use of the poetic words... plus James Taylor is a favorite of mine and has been for so very long. Love the clarity and contrast found in this image... in fact, I can see nothing wrong with any part of this composition. Your story sets the stage just right for full enjoyment and contemplation!

While this is not an outstanding photo,it has an air of simplicity about it,and such a touching story about it and the b/w theme gives it that old fashioned charm, thanks for sharing..brian

James Taylor did write some beautiful lyrics and songs and the words you have quoted are some of the greatest...On the one hand I find this posting quite sad BUT on the other hand it is very true to 'life'...Great shot mate

Thanks Yes one of JT's best songs I think. Less sad because they lived life each moment.

A very touching story, and so full of feeling and good memories. My grandmother and grandfather had a pair of these on their summer porch. They sat on the porch after dinner and often watched the lovely sunset across the Bay. My grandmother had Parkinson's disease, so the time they spent together was treasured. Thank you for sharing this image and story.
