Very effective and well taken in good clear detail and nice focus. The light is nice giving good clear colours. Nice tight framing.

I like the great detail in this photo. You did a great job of showing the subtle contrast differences in the tool and the rust. Good luck in the contest! Thanks for sharing.

I guess I am kinda odd in that I like these type photos. I like old barns, old houses, old farm machinery. I guess just things from the past. The shot has good color and clarity. A little blurred around the back edge but does not detract from the photo. Detailed enough that I see the flecks of sand...dirt..Photos like these tell a story in a sense, if the tool could talk what would it tell? Nicely done

I think this is a fine entry for the contest Lucien, and I like the close and personal approach letting the viewer having a good look at all the fine textures you have brought out. I also like very much the selective focus with the shallow DOF.

It is a nice clarity and sharpness in the object and I also think the exposure is perfect. Especially I appreciate the natural colors. The slight diagonal position of the object together with a good cropping is giving the composition a good balance and flow. An all together well taken photo, and I wish you luck with the contest.

I love the shapes and the shadows in this picture. You have all the elements for a fantastic shot. It has such a feel for nostalgia.

A very strong 5 rating here. I very much like this kind of photo. Nicely composed with good detail. Exposure good, sharp although I would like to see a little more dof. Good visual impact. Hope you do good in the contest.

It has been quite a while since I have seen your work but then I have been away for quite a while! Having read other reviews of this piece, I will not duplicate but add to them. What I like most about this image is the focus on the hook portion of the lock mechanism. It's nice and clean while the surrounding area is just slightly blurry. The eye is drawn to the that portion of the image but still takes in the rest of the composition with ease. It's almost as if the photographer was telling the viewer, "the most important part of this tool is its locking mechanism, which of course, it is. Having the "spot light" hit just off to the left of the hook actually draws the viewer to the hook itself. Very nice piece, Lucien.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.

I don't think you have broken any rules, but if you have the KGB will find you out, have no fear.

Lucien, I like this upload - a macro of a clasp that has seen better days. Your diagonal compositional style adds to the dynamic feel . I find the focal pop, or the point of sharpness is on the grungy rusty part that has a nice orange or rather rust coloured hue so our eyes gravitate to that area. Post processing has brought out a nice "solarization" effect behind and in the corners of the clasp.

Because you chose to format it into a rather large vertical format you have given this a further visual strength which marries well with the clasp...there is strength felt.

Your dof is quite shallow and personally I would not have minded a bit more in focus but that is truly an artistic call.

The textural quality is felt and you have not overcooked this piece so it remains unpretentious and an honest upload.

Thank you for putting out some contests. It is truly nice when artists give back to FAR by creating contests and pushing us peons (namely me) further. I too have entered your contest.
