This one is much better. Assume flash but not positive. Like the subject matter and composition, simple but interesting and an odd number of items is good. The use of light and shadow adds interest. Looks like some cloning was performed on the right acorn as there is a multiple repeat of the detail. Could use a greater overall sharpness. Creative.

What a lovely close up shot of these three hazel nuts. You have captured the subjects well by using good light, good colour and good composition. The nuts have lovely texture to them as well. Well done.

An interesting picture of these three still Green Acorns cut from the tree before they had time to ripen. Squirrels, Mice & passing Pigs will be very happy to find these. Beautiful composition, framing& lighting with superb camera techniques with sharp focus.

Thank you. I was lucky that day. We had a soaking rain and it saturated the wood table making it a perfect background.

Meg, you nailed this.
First of all, the composition is tight and because of that we get engaged immediately with the three acorns. Psychology tells us that our brains love uneven numbers, three, 5 acorns , 7 and so on and so forth. Good you found three models to pose for you.
I am enamored with the square format of late, it is very powerful but I feel you could have enlarged the square a tad, just to give us breathing space, although that is strictly all about artistic license.
The deft usage of filter gives this photograph a textured appearance as if we can touch these three brothers and see that diagonal slash of background? That is the dynamite that sets this piece into the stratosphere, it explodes off the page.
Really nice work. You need to matte this and frame it and hang it up! Could use your signature at the bottom right hand side too.

Thank you so much. Believe it or not I took this with my cell phone. Love that post processing software to bring it to life. You mention odd numbers. I found a photo tip web site a while ago and one of the articles talked about the use of odd numbers of things in photography. I also lucked out with the background. We had heavy rain and the wood of the table was saturated with water and thus it was a nice dark color. The oak tree is across from my sisters house and at this time of year the acorns are falling like leaves in the fall and the squirrels spend hours knocking them on the ground. Also, since being here on FAR, I have learned some tricks of the trade from great artists, like yourself, and have been able to apply these things to my own work. Some of my work still needs a little help but I can" see" things I could not see before. Thank you for your continued help and suggestions.

Meg, that is the beauty of this site over others. We can actually talk to each other and make friends and grow in our craft. I feel the same way as you do about FART.

Very nice. I like the earthy feel. The colors are wonderful, making it seem that they were just plucked from the tree. The composition is nice as is the clarity. Good initial impact, overall nicely done!

Oh! I really like this! First of all, I like closely-cropped work... shows you're not timid about what you've photographed. The focus on this is just great. I think the lighting is exquisite. Finally, your composition (especially with the number three) is just divine. Good work!

Thank you so much. I remember reading something in a photography web site about odd numbers so that is how I came up with the three acorns.
