This is very beautiful, Eileen. I agree with your vision that a flamingo is known for its color. Seeing it in B&W gives it much more dimension and texture in my opinion. I don't believe the detail that you have captured here in the neck and body feathers has ever been noticed as well when it's colors are in competition. Even knowing how colorful birds this is, I think the photo also is looking smashing in BW. I think it mostly because of the wonderful light in this photo and how it is falling on the bird. This is has brought great contrasts and distinctions between light and dark. The bird is also standing out from the background in the most excellent way.
Your photo is just pin sharp showing such clear and well defined details in every part of the bird, and the exposure is just perfect.
The cropping indeed works well and the bird, posing so beautifully for you, has got a very good placement within the frame. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo and with an excellent DOF.
