A very successful effort on your part..the shadows definitely steal the show here! You have had a few great entries with shadows. Your flashlight placement was a success again!

Boy I gotta tell you that, like you, it took me a minute to get past expecting this to be B&W. Now I am completely loving the colors that are working through the shadows. The over saturation is perfect for this abstract composition.

Your clarity is excellent and I like the texture that is evident in your background..appears to be a fine water color paper.

Your other success in composition is your placement of diagonals...the shadows into one upper corner and the hues of pinks, purples, blues and the white corner cutting a soft diagonal line crossing behind those sharp ones. The most light being in the bottom corner of the frame beneath the subject is ingenious. Superior simplicity . Deserves a signature when the contest is over!!

Thanks for your vote of confidence (no pun intended). As you know, this image is way off my beaten path. But it also felt good at the same time to do something more bold and less predictable. Something about old dogs and new tricks I believe.

I have found that for shadows like this a "tactical" flashlight is much better than a regular flashlight. With a tactical flashlight you can zoom the beam in or out, diffuse or concentrated. That helps a lot to develop the shadows you want. The background was just a piece of foamboard. It looks more textured zoomed in.

Thanks for the super high rating and now I am on record as capable of doing, to some degree, abstract photography!

I put this contest up because of your fern photo. (don't ask). ....and I was hoping to get abstracts like this...well done. I'm happy to see this as an entry and thank you for your artist's notes in describing your process.

I love the colours, of course...purple and pink (ok I know it's bluish) are my fave.

Thank you once agian.
