Everything that has to do with Greece appeals to me, and Hemera is truly beautiful. She actually looks like the Goddess of earth, air, fire and water. I especially like that you have used a blue background, because it makes her golden hair stand out so well.

You have brought out fine textures in the hair, and a nice softness to the skin, and with smooth an accurate brush strokes. Very good use of high lights as well.

The format and the framing works well even if you could have had a bit less negative space at the top. I think this is a truly lovely and well done painting, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Very lovely portrait painting of this beautiful woman. The blue background was a great choice as it illuminates her hair. Nice lighting and detail in your artwork.

I think she is very beautiful and the background suits the colors of the sky and air. I love the texture of her hair and the skin tones and eyes, which are penetrating. You did a wonderful representation and I wish you much luck in the contest. It's a beaut!!

Thank you very much. I looked at your portfolio. Interesting and powerful bold strokes and colors. However, I don't really understand abstracts so I must refrain from voting. I don't think I could give a vote that would be fair because of my ignorance in this category of art.

What you see in abstract is your view and expression. You are not expected to know what the artist's interpretation is. Give a look and see what you see.

Excellent presentation of this goddess. You have captured her expression splendidly and with good use of the technique that allows her to follow the viewer around the room. The fleshy tonal control is very well done and contests nicely with the golden locks.Great work and good luck

A fantastic and brilliantly accurate portrait of the human form, despite this being a representation of a goddess - I like the fact that she looks no different to any other mortal, and also the process you describe in your narrative as to how you composed the piece. Great use of bold but not overwhelming colours, accurate and well proportioned facial features, and great work with the eyes as intended, looking straight at the viewer. The dark & light blue background accentuates her figure further - a well painted piece, good work :)

Thank you very much. Thanks for your comment about her not looking any different to any other mortal. That was another goal of mine. The ancient Greek gods were often daily involved with humans and could be seen as gods if they wanted, or much more frequently just blended in as another mortal. And, I remember reading something about man being created in our image or just like us or something like that. So again, thank you for mentioning that.

A brand new member Carl?? I'm sure this is the first time I've seen your name.

Wonderful notes included w/ your piece! Good for you. I am always pleased when the artist says a little something about their piece. So...Greek Mythology....I love the stories...always hated trying to keep the names and familial connections straight...lol Curious about your 'old Master's technique' used to give the illusion your subject was looking back at the reviewer? Whatever it is btw, you most certainly achieved it. Your Hemera is absolutely gorgeous...more of a modern looking woman than many other mythical Greek figures I remember....even to the light colored hair and eyes.

Your presentation of her is excellent though...no matter how you conceived of her. In fact, well drawn enough that it could be a photographic image. Perfect representation for the sky behind her as well.

A pleasure 'meeting' you Artist Carl...lol- great by-line btw Best of luck to you w/ Hemera in the contest!

Deborah

Thank you very much. It is nice when someone sees what I was aiming at doing in the painting. Brand new? Naw, that was over 72 years ago. New to the site? Been here a few weeks now. Thanks for your vote and comments.

Nice delineation of a mythical Greek goddess.
The blue is definitely that Mediterranean blue in the background.
I like her expression and slightly wild look, as if to say "yeah, I am a goddess and do whatever I want!"
The look kind of pushes and pulls upon the viewer.
You want to get closer, but not too close as not to offend.
Nice job!

Cool,Carl!
: )
Your pleasantly colorful portrait of mythical Hemera, the Goddess of the Day,the mother of Uranus ( among others ),and a daughter of Nyx,the primordial Goddess of the Night certainly is an attractive image,my friend!
A 'Good Show' indeed!

Thank you very much. I see you know about ancient Greek mythology. Nice. Whenever I do a painting or collection of paintings about something I like to do the background research in order to enhance and sometimes direct my concept. I think it makes it fuller somehow.

The artist was successful in creating the mystical aspect of the painting with the well blended background. The viewer can feel the eyes of the subject looking deep into the viewer.

I am new to this sight so bear with me. I rated it as high as my choices allowed. I am not certain why my six star option disappeared.

Good morning. I have discovered you are allowed only six 6 star votes per week. So, don't fret it. I thought you had developed a scoring system of your own and I was curious to know about it. Anyway, thank you for your comments and vote.
