what a great story telling image. love the details and depth and colors. very interesting to see they still have flagmen, here in Mich, and Wisconsin they have places that don't even have drivers. there are sings up by the crossing that says radio controlled train crossing. thank you for sharing. dale

yes it is around the train repair building in Wisconsin, and they are moving them all the time. there are signals but there is no one on the engines. crazy.

A nice capture Mary Eileen. The train just off center coming out of the background and the flagman caught at the perfect moment. The blues of the evergreen makes a nice contrast with the yellow vest and the black and white of the engine. Nicely done my friend ~ Steve

Take care, I see you were to the side of the tracks, many photographers stand to close to the tracks and some on them, you did well with this one, like the night shot, guy makes the photo a good story

Thank you. The train was moving slowly so I had plenty of time to move farther away after the shot

Hello Meg

Good first impression and I like night images. You have done well here. The details are crisp and clear and the composition is very good.

The story is depicted just as you described it. The flagman is finished with his task and he is now stepping back onto the train. The defined task is a little unusual but we are where we are and you have documented it well. Nice job

Thank you for sharing today.

Roger

Impressive composition, the power of the huge machine , and the power of the small man stopping it. Like this expressive contrast with dark trees around, and spot of light on the train that attracts the attention, Thanks for sharing .

So considerate of the engineer to stop the train to be sure there are no approaching vehicles! That surely does not happen here in Central Florida! The size of the locomotive is daunting especially in comparison to the man. His bright yellow and orange vest really make him stand out against the dark backdrop of the trees and train in the disminishing daylight. And the light shining from the train is eye fetching! I like this talented work! Bravo and good luck to you in the contest!

Meg,
A beautiful atmospheric picture of this the Flag-man jumping back into the train after it has gone over the crossing in the dark his hi-vis jacket & the train's tail light glowing in the night. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Nice shot ! A well balanced photo with the tracks leading the eye to the focal point. Maybe a tad out of focus . No biggie . Great shot . Good luck

Thank you. Yes I think the focus is a little soft. I took this with my cell phone and the train was moving toward me.

A nice photo journalistic image.

The light on the train tracks really gives movement and the flagman stands out in his yellow and red attire.

Meg, the image is soft, have a look on the trees and overall it looks like it has camera shake, however, it could be your intention with post processing so can't fault you on that.

You've composed it well.

Thank you...you are right the focus is a little soft. I took this with my cell phone and I have difficulty being consistent with the focus with it.
