I think this is a very nice shot of a spider. I like how it is in the spotlight and the interesting background it is in. I think this would've made a great entry in the tiny winy contest. The spider is very clear and appears small in the photograph,
Very nice work

I love the way the popcorn ceiling looks like stones in this shot. Nice shot of a skittish subject. Should have entered this in the arachnid contest.

A great shot of this Orb Weaver Spider, spotted scuttling across your wall in the night - you're right they are harmless and very good fly & other pest catchers! I've been studying/photographing a lot of them recently as we have thousands in our garden, particularly in a big ivy bush I've named "Hotel Spider" or "Spider Apartments", I can't decide on which yet. This is a good opportunistic shot and the torchlight is not overbearing to the detail of the spider as it easily could be, I know all too well how difficult it is shooting by torchlight I was only doing a load of it in the woods last night!! Very tedious. The clarity is not spot on obviously as it was moving, but I'm not going to be an ass about that as it is clear enough and also stands out well against the white background which accentuates its features. A nice chance shot of this little beast, I thought I had another entry for my Arachnid competition then! ;( lol. Good work :)

    Ed,
Thanks a million for your great review .
My house is a Spider Hotel no matter how many times I remove the webs they are there again next day. I also have two webs on the wing mirrors of the car which survive the frequent removal of the web. I'm sure if I look in the ivy I'll find the same as you.
I point blank refuse to use any toxic sprays in the Garden after doing so once & losing the Goldfinches for six months. So the Spiders are my natural Pest control.

I've grown to like them since I took up photography, when I used to totally hate them before - I've even got to know specific ones that live in the bush that I've photographed on numerous occasions and can recognise them! Perhaps a reason why they disappear and reappear and an interesting fact: Orb Weavers when they sense danger or a storm coming they eat their current web to preserve the silk production of it is tiring for them and they can only produce so much - they then re absorb it and when the danger/storm passes they weave a new web, recycling the silk! :)
