Wanted to check this out the other day Fred but I ran out of time then it disappeared. Was looking through spring gardening catalogs earlier and something I saw reminded me of it so I came to have a better look.

Crazy looking flower. Did you ever discover what it was?? It looks like nothing I've ever seen. Beautiful color- which you show really nicely...no bleeding anywhere. Nice crisp focus as well. I can clearly see even the tiny seed. Spot on w/ exposure. Definitely will be the most interesting blossom in this contest I bet. Best of luck w/ it. Nicely presented piece.

Curious too if you ever discovered anything about it?? yes? no?

    thanks a lot Deborah for your lovely comments;
    unfortunately I have no idea what it is ; moreover, I took this pic many years ago in Bali and I was silly not to take more pics with the leaves, to be able to identify one day; I'm just pretty sure it was growing like a vine.....not a small tree so it cannot be a "bottle brush" as suggested by Annie;

    yes, definitely doesn't look like any bottle brush I've seen. Like a vine...hmnnn...do you think that's what the two sticks on either side of the flower are then??

This is a great shade of red. I like the bright vibrancy and the unusual shape. I like how wee you got the filaments and anthers o show. The clarity and depth are very nice.

It looks a little bit as a bottle brush flower at an early stage, but I am not sure. It is anyway truly lovely and is standing out so well against the background.

Your photo is also sharp and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the flower. Especially the stamens, and the exposure is perfect.

I also think the cropping has worked well, and the flower has got a fine placement within the frame. It is a lovely and well taken photo, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Wow! This is very interesting to view, I love the color ! Nice detail in this unique flower, well focused, well exposed, good composition to showcase the subject. I would love to know the name of it ! There is an app that will identify flowers, it would be interesting to find out its origin and name , thanks for sharing.

Wow! A wonderful capture of this strange flower! I too would love to know its name. The brilliant red is tough to control in saturation..and I may have backed off of it a bit just to keep searching for the detail within this unique flower. But you have done a fine job. And I like the framing of the stems on either side of this blossom. Wow! Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Fred,
A beautiful picture of this beautiful scarlet flower head with it's tangle of curled stamens protruding from the florets that make up the flower head beautifully framed by it's foliage & two stems. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques& sharp focus.
