a very nice portrait of this male egret in his breeding colors; perfect rframing and sharp focus against the blurred green bg;
white balance looks fine but you should have darken the pic in order to avoid some blown out areas;

Beautiful subject! Very well photographed, good focus, the image is clear, well exposed whites, nice featgervdetail, good eye contact. It's well composed with a good position in frame, leaving room on the left for this beauty to move in to. Well presented!

A beautiful bird and a very fine shot. I like the exposure for the white plumage and the sharply rendered eye and bill. Great light and an outstanding setting.

I hope you do not mind honest critiques on camera techs Barbara. My 6 years here I learned my first year about blow out. And I worked on it because of the few that were willing to give helpful Reviews instead of high five fluff get the coin move on.
I work hours helping many on this site correct white balance.
So..your photo is lovely, sharply focused with superb eye Clarity. White balance is off loosing details on most of his body where it is soft and a tad bright. Your shutter speed and f/stop were fine, but white balance needed to be Controlled more.
I hope you do not get upset...but I am growing tired of the fluff Reviews that offer praise and no help in ones growth in their work.
:)

    Thank you very much for the review! I'm not upset. I appreciate your advice and I remember your advice from other reviews that you've given me. At the time I took this photo I might not have known as much about controlling the whites.

You have taken on a very difficult subject to photograph well. Not the bird but its color - White. It is very difficult to get all the detail of the feathers with out any blowout.

The head, a key part of the bird is in full detail - well done. The eye is razor sharp and bright. The only area that I can see that is slightly blown out is the shoulder. Feather detail drops off sharply here.

Overall, a well captured take with good placement of the subject.

DOF controls detail of the bird and the foreground. Background detail is soft and make a fine bokeh.

Overall this is an exceptionally well done piece ... B-)) Bob

Wonderful capture of this stunning Egret... my very favorite bird of all. Well, maybe - owl. No - Eagle. LOL I love them all - everyone of them. You have really nice detail over all of the white in this bird so kudos on the exposure! I personally would slide the light down just a little to add a tiny bit more of shadow but that's me! :-)) Your detail is fabulous as well. Fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing!

A great shot of this Egret suffering a common and puzzling problem amongst their species; swallowing a question mark. This one seems to have the answer however. ;) Great portrait framing and nice subdued natural lighting shows the crisp whiteness of the birds down and feathers, captured with great clarity and detail, right down to the beady little eye watching lol. The contrasting mild green surrounding foliage is nice as is is shown in focus in the fore and as a blur in the b/g, creating perspective as well as accentuating the piece. Great work, well done :)
