Good artists notes and I like that your art work tells a story. A beautiful creation of this sacred place in Chaco Canyon. I like the rich colors and texture of the ancient ruins. I also like the effect used on the sky giving the piece dynamics and movement. A nice balance of shapes and tones. A creative and talented art work. Thanks for sharing.

This is nice, especially the earth tones of the foreground. This is a good entry for the contest. Nice compositiin. Well framed. Rare vertical format for a landscape. Sharp image. What a sky. The sun is coming from where the viewer is, kindof head on. Thank you for sharing and best of luck with this image

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. It pleases me when others enjoy my work. Thank you for mentioning the sun location. I painted all six in this series with the sun at the viewer's back to give the feeling of seeing something fresh and direct on to be more inviting.

I always have to think where my sun is coming from. I think all artists do. Especially when creating own composition

This is very nicely accomplished! You have done a wonderful job of composition and colorization. I love the sky almost a turquoise effect. I love turquoise! It's almost marbled. I am glad you felt a sense of belonging rather than fear. You can feel it in your rendering. Really lovely. Well done. Good contest contender!

This is amazing to view! I like the way you give dimension to the forms , it's very impressive the details and colors in the ruins and the surrounding ground are so well created, I love the texture you have given the sky, I really appreciate the opportunity to view this work, I enjoyed the story too!

This is a nice painting. I like how you did the sky with squiggly lines, very unique. Very nice color with the light and dark green. I don't know anything about this place but after reading about it, I may have to do a google search to satisfy my curious mind. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. During your google search you will discover sensational pictures and words of accolades and mystery. The whole experience will be sensationalized. A visit to the ruins will not be as sensational as the descriptions. There is a dry campground at the site. Take a few days to explore. After about three days the sheer magnitude of the site will start to sink in. So, if you can, visit the site.

Hi Carl thanks for sharing this excellent painting of the ruined building after visiting Chaco ruins. Enjoyed reading your notes on the method used to create your work. Love the effect you have gained by use of the palette knife for rendering the sky. It gives a great effect with the unusual lines and the nicely blended tones of blue and white.. The blue wash over the top is something very different and works well here giving the sky an appearance of a well aged picture.. and a nice compliment to the ageing ruins. Love the ruins themselves. the colour and texture are both appealing to the eye and the use of the palette knife has worked well .. The form each part of the ruins has nice lines giving it an aged effect as it has slowly weathered away in time.. Love the earthy tones used to create contrast and appeal. The vertical lines catch the eye as this old relic stands there in all its glory on the hillside. The grassy slope in yellowish tones is a nice choice and compliments the building.. A nice inclusion of rocks in the foreground along with scattered parts from the building itself. Thanks for sharing your art Carl. It has much appeal and you have used the palette knife extremely well. Your painting was a pleasure to review. cheers mel and best of luck in the contest.
